Downtown San Antonio is the central business area of San Antonio, Texas. It serves as the urban core of Greater San Antonio. This metropolitan area with almost 2.5 million people is encircled by three Interstate freeways. The three highways together create a rectangular route around the city’s urban core with a nine-mile circumference and are known as the “Downtown Loop”.
Downtown is home to many districts such as Alamo, Alamodome, Central Business District, Convention Center District, Historic Civic District, Houston Street, Lavaca, La Villita, Market Square, North Downtown, River North, Zona cultural, San Antonio CO-OP, River Bend, King William, South Flores, SoSo and so much more.
Downtown is built on the banks of San Pedro Creek in the nearly 1700s to serve as a Spanish accomplishment in the area. Since it was established as Downtown San Antonio, it has over the ensuing centuries and now holds seventh place in the ranking of North America’s most populated cities. Downtown San Antonio is a melting pot of ethnic diversity culturally influenced by native indigenous Papaya Indians and settlers from the Canary Islands, Africa, and Europe.
